World as Lover, World as Self, Chapter 1: City Pollen by Magali Reus
DESCRIBed by Pris Roos on Thursday 19 November 2020 between 3 and 4 PM

Ik loop de trappen op
I am climbing the stairs

I enter the space
The space is rectangle
The floor is grey and like concrete
The wall behind me is white

Het regent
It is raining

Het regent niet
It is not raining

I look in front of me
And what I see
Are windows welcoming me
They are tall and run from the ceiling just to forty centimeters of the grey floor

Window number one to the far left
I see a green crane in the distance
Three even, no wait four green cranes
Standing next to each other waiting in line to function
And in the back there is a white boat
Like a cruise ship
But it is a cargo boat

Window number two
The sky is becoming more grey
And in the far distance you can see more cranes
Are they waiting to function again?
I am near the port
Next to it even
From the window that is open
I can hear the wind and sky
I can even smell the air

Window number three and four are overlooking the houses of the neighbourhood
Orange rooftrees
Brown black yellow old brick stones
A tall chimney standing and smoking
And cars are parked on the ground floor

Standing next to me
To the right is a
Brown table welcoming me with a blue bottle of hand sanitizer next to my cup of ginger tea and a small transparent vase containing a bunch of yellow lily flowers

And there are books of the artist Magali Reus to look into

Next to the table I spot two brown chairs with white paint spatters on it

The space is empty
Can’t you hear my echo?
Can’t you hear my voice echo?

I walk to the right
The wall is covered with a large-scale image of a truck
I recognise the back a of a truck because its scratches on the metal grey door and metal attributes
The truck it self is covered with a zoomed image of two flowers
The inside of a rose, or a tulip, I think it is a rose
The colours are like overcooked salmon and beige white combined with dark violet purple

Overlaying the wallpaper you can find a circular sculpture hung in the middle of the wall
It resembles a stop sign but instead of red and white
It is dark marine blue and covered with illustrations of grapes with leaves and cutlery

I am coming closer to it
There are two grey plastic objects behind the transparent plexiglass in the circular sculpture
I recognise a toothbrush in it and I cannot identify the other object
Both are imprinted with brand names
Everyday products use by truck drivers
Not only used by truck drivers, but human beings

I turn around to the left
And I can see the same circular sculpture hung on the other side of the wall
Instead of dark marine blue, the stop sign is ochre and grey brownish
Instead of a tooth brush and an underidentified object
I see an air freshener, inside, for your car and it’s tagged with the word HALOGEN
And I see a flash light inside of it
And the stop sign also has an illustration of a sort of an animal like
Is it a cat? Is it a bunny? Is it a face?
It’s a bird. I can see it. I can see it now

I wonder, can I break into it, into the glass
These ordinary objects made from plastic
The sculpture comes on top of another large scale image
An image of the facade of a truck
The back door of truck which is shiny and bright
Metal fits perfect with the light coming from the sky outside from the shimmers
The shimmers are the windows

I see a big magenta flower printed on the truck
Ik vraag me af, I wonder, welke bloem is dit nou?
Which flower is this?

Ik sluit mijn ogen
I close my eyes
And in the near and distant
I hear the cars running
Engines making noises
Do I hear an airplane?
No, I hear an air filter?
Or is it outside
I hear a truck driving backwards and echoing

Toet toet toet toet toet toet
And yellow lily flowers
Roses
And purple
